CNN reports that Alan Andrew and his Belgian husband Vincent Proost have purchased an abandoned farm in the Alentejo region of Portugal and have decided to move there permanently.

The couple spent nearly two decades together in the UK, looking for a new home in Europe. After months of traveling around Portugal, they fell in love with the Alentejo and decided to look for a house here.

It was discovered, however, that the farmhouse was so ruined that it had to be demolished and a new house built from scratch.

The couple decided to move to Portugal permanently to fully immerse themselves in the building process and farming.

They rented a house nearby while they finalized the deal and applied for a residence permit. The house took longer to build because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but they eventually completed the project and named their new home Casa Baio.

They also began renting out part of the house to tourists. The couple notes that their new life in Portugal has fully met their expectations and they are happy they decided to take this step.
