PDI-P opposes Prabowo-led food complex project - Politics - Jakarta Post
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has accused President Joko Widodo's administration of failing to properly manage the mega food project. This is a clear attack on Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, the party's main opponent in the upcoming presidential elections.
PDI-P joined the growing criticism of this controversial agricultural project on Tuesday, stating that "it is an environmental crime" to cut down such a vast amount of forests without properly managing it. "The practical implementation of this policy has been flawed," said PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto. "Forests have been cut down, and food production has been poorly organized."
The party noted that while it supports Widodo's plans to reduce the country's dependence on imports of staple foods, it is concerned about mismanagement within the program.
