Penthouse in Bangkok is being sold for11.8 million US dollars in a major deal for Thailand
The building's developer said it was the most expensive apartment sold in the country.
A penthouse in a 34-story tower in Bangkok was sold for 436 million Thai baht (US$11.832 million), making it the most expensive apartment sale in the country, according to developer Scope Co.
The nearly 4,700-square-foot condo was listed for sale in early October and sold in just one week, according to real estate records.
The tower, designed by New York-based architecture firm KPF, with interiors by designer Thomas Juul-Hansen, is located in Lumpini, "one of Bangkok's most desirable and developing neighborhoods," according to KPF.
Mansion Global's website could not independently confirm the record sale or the identity of the buyer.
Representatives of the developer declined to comment on the buyer's information.
The four-bedroom, five-bathroom penthouse offers an open floor plan with ceilings over 13 feet high and walls of glass - a design element important to both the exterior and interior.
"The dynamic façade features sleek glass 'folds' and stainless steel fins that undulate across the building's surface, mimicking the dynamic visual rhythm of traditional Thai-style layered roofs," the building's design is described on its website.
The design also allows for private balconies and creates "a dramatic visual experience not only for residents looking out over the city, but also for outside observers. Scope Langsuan promotes the important Thai attitude of hospitality and generosity represented by the openness and visibility of the building's interior."
The apartment also has a kitchen from German brand Bulthaup with appliances from Gaggeneau and Sub-Zero, including a wine cabinet, photos from the listing show.
There is also a so-called sunset area next to the balcony, providing space for outdoor living.
The building was designed by New York-based architecture firm KPF.
