The House of Representatives is planning a special session.

A meeting took place in ministerial circles dedicated to the general debates in parliament on Wednesday. A special session of the House is expected to be convened next month or in June for the first reading of the budget bill for the 2025 fiscal year. This was reported by House Speaker Wan Muhamad Nur Mata. According to him, the government plans to complete discussions on spending proposals by the middle of this year, which will create an opportunity for a special session if the bill is submitted by the cabinet. The current session of parliament will conclude on April 9, and the next session will begin on July 3. Wan Nur noted that if a special session is organized for the first reading of the budget bill, other important legislative initiatives may also be considered.

As clarified by Deputy Representative Rudkhao Suankri, the budget bill was initially scheduled to be reviewed at a cabinet meeting on March 26. After minor adjustments, the bill will be resubmitted for cabinet approval on May 28, after which it will be sent to parliament. The first reading in the House is scheduled for June 5-6, while the second and third readings are expected at the end of August. Following this, the Senate will begin discussing the bill in early September. After parliamentary approval, the bill will be sent for royal assent so that it can come into effect at the start of the new financial year in October.
