The Powerball winner of $2.04 billion bought a dream home for $25 million in Hollywood and his hometown.
The owner of Joe's service station in Altadena, California, sold the winning ticket and received a $1 million bonus.
The life of the sole winner of the Powerball lottery drawing for $2.04 billion in November 2022 seems a bit more glamorous. Edwin Castro won the largest jackpot in history and chose to take a lump sum of $997.6 million. Since his win, there have been news reports about his spending, including the purchase of two multimillion-dollar homes in California and a luxury car that attracts the attention of those around him.
Although he refused to appear publicly when he claimed the grand prize two months after the drawing, he praised California's public schools as the "real winner" and stated in a written statement that he was shocked and thrilled. In California, the identities of lottery winners are considered public information. California Lottery Director Alva Johnson announced Castro's win on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2023, in Sacramento, California.
After many weeks of accumulation, the Powerball drawing on November 7, 2022, grew to $2.04 billion. The jackpot was estimated at $1.9 billion just a few days before the drawing, but ticket sales pushed it over the $2 billion mark after updated calculations. The number of drawings increased 40 times since August 3, 2022. Edwin Castro finally won the lottery with the winning numbers 10-33-41-47-56, and the Powerball was 10.
The Powerball lottery drawing for $2.04 billion was delayed for several hours due to the enormous interest in the $2 billion prize.

Despite the delay, the California Lottery quickly announced that the ticket was sold at Joe's service station in Altadena, California, near Los Angeles. The identity of the ticket seller was revealed a day after the drawing.
At the press conference, owner Joe Chahaed Jr. stated that he would like to share the money with his 11 grandchildren. Chahaed and his son, Joe Chahaed Jr., were photographed outside Joe's service station. Traditionally, sellers receive a small portion of the main prize, but as lottery ticket sales pushed the Powerball jackpot far beyond the $2 billion mark, the bonus amount also increased. The California Lottery paid Chahaed a $1 million bonus for selling the winning ticket.
