Why are the Portuguese moving back home?

Over the past five years, 36% of Portuguese people have changed their place of residence, with 7% having moved in the last year. These are the findings of a study conducted by Observador Cetelem, a commercial brand of the BNP Paribas Personal Finance group, and reported by the resource idealista. According to the study, the main reasons for moving are changes in family composition (33%), economic reasons (32%), and professional motives (17%).

On the other hand, in the youth age group (from 18 to 24 years), the percentage of other reasons is higher: changes in family composition (43%) and professional motives (30%)," the study concludes.

Most respondents, nearly seven out of ten (69%), report that they own their own home, while 28% live in rented accommodation. The remaining 4% of respondents chose the "other" option, which includes living in family homes, the company reports.

According to the study, more people in Porto live in their own homes (72%), followed by the Southern region (71%) and the Northern region (68%).
