The Fairfax County Police Department has released chest camera video showing police fatally shooting Timothy Johnson, a 37-year-old man who allegedly stole sunglasses from a mall in Northern Virginia. Surveillance and chest camera video footage from the Feb. 22 shooting was shown publicly for the first time at a news conference held Thursday by Police Chief Kevin Davis, who also announced the firing of the officer who fired the fatal shot.

"The other officer who fired the shot has received a notice of administrative dismissal from the Fairfax County Police Department. This notice was sent out today. He will no longer be a Fairfax County police officer," Davis said.

According to ABC News

Timothy Johnson's mother, Melissa, said she was "happy to hear about his administrative dismissal" of one officer, but she was not "happy to hear about continued limited duty" for another. "Both officers fired shots.

Both had their guns out," Johnson's mother said, adding that she felt like she could breathe normally for the first time midweek.

She also told ABC News that she saw the chest camera video on Wednesday, before it was published. "No parent should watch something like this," she said.

According to police, video of the moment Johnson was at Nordstrom's department store in the Tysons Corner Center mall shows he allegedly stole at least one pair of sunglasses. Once the anti-theft alarm system was triggered where Johnson exited the store, police began pursuing him on foot. Chest camera video shows police catching up to Johnson as he exits the parking lot and runs into a dark wooded area. Shots can be heard on the videotape, one of which struck Johnson's chest, police said.

Police said they immediately rendered aid to Johnson until fire and rescue arrived, after which Johnson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Davis said, "The officer's actions did not meet the expectations of our police department." "They pulled out their guns and shot him and the only thing they knew was that he allegedly stole a pair of sunglasses," Melissa Johnson said at an earlier press conference.

Police said no weapons were recovered at the scene. Both officers are still under investigation, connecting with a police report.

The officers did not immediately respond to an ABC News request for comment.
