The 2,500-cubic-meter tank belongs to Mab Ta Phut Tank Terminal, a petrochemical storage company. Inside was pyrolysis gasoline, a mixture of chemicals widely used for blending gasoline.

Videos and photos from the scene show a huge cloud of black smoke and a blazing fire engulfing a white tank that was standing next to others. The company stated that it is investigating the causes of the fire and will take measures to prevent it in the future, as well as expressing condolences and a willingness to provide compensation to those affected.

This is not the first incident involving the company: in 2021, it had to temporarily suspend operations after an explosion and fire at one of its tanks, resulting in the deaths of three people and serious injuries to two others.
