The advantage of the Daou family owners in Paso Robles is expanding to Tuscany.

The new property of the Daou family still doesn't have a name, but the purchase includes 70 hectares of land and an old farmhouse called Koroglie.

Next month, the Dau brothers plan to plant 20 hectares of vineyards, focusing on Bordeaux varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The vineyard will utilize biodynamic principles, as well as dry planting and an organic approach. The first harvest is scheduled for 2025.

Winemaker Daniel Dow was drawn to the new property because of the similarities he found with the estate in Paso Robles. "It reminds us of Dow Mountain in Paso," he explained.

The property is situated between two high points - Monte Cetona and Monte Amiata, the latter being a volcano that remains snow-covered throughout the year. Due to this location, the property experiences a daily temperature variation of 15-20ºC. The soils are limestone-clay, and the vineyard will be located at an altitude of approximately 350 meters.

The Dahu brothers plan to use the same dense planting as in Paso: about 6,000-7,000 grapevines per hectare. The wine will be called Koroglie, in honor of the century-old farmhouse on the same property. The brothers do not plan to make Val d'Orcia DOC wine, which requires a minimum of 60% Sangiovese in the blend. The premium wines will fall under IGT Toscana, with a production of 60,000-84,000 bottles per year.

The Daus are working with the authorities to restore the old farmhouse on the site. The goal is to turn it into a tasting venue and to build a winery.

Daniel's daughter, Lizzie Dau, who recently returned from a two-year stint at Château Latour, will closely collaborate with her father on the project in Val d'Orcia. In addition to the Dau family, they also hope to hire a local team and offer internships to international students. Daniel said, "Our goal is to bring the gifts of Val d'Orcia, the gifts ofTuscany. To present this to our members, the trade, and the 60 countries we work with."

Daou Family Estates is located on 86 acres on a hill in the Adelaide district of Paso Robles, California. It was founded by the brothers in 2007 to develop the potential of Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties in the region. Today, the estate offers guests a variety of tasting options and views of Paso Robles from Daou Mountain. The brothers were born in Lebanon and grew up in southern France. Daniel stated that they "have always had a tendency towards the Mediterranean lifestyle." "As a family, we have developed our own technique and our own path. We want to take all our knowledge from the last 19 years and apply it to our project inTuscany. To show that our family can be successful not only in Paso but beyond," he said.
