Zijin Mining's continued investment in the Serbian copper project - $3.8 billion.
September11 (SeeNews) - Chinese group Zijin Mining is investing $3.8 billion (3.5 billion euros) in the development of the copper and gold deposit Cukaru Peki Lower Zone of the Timok project in eastern Serbia, the government announced.
Moreover, a separate agreement was signed regarding a300 MW solar power plant project to meet the company's energy needs, the government announced in a press release on Saturday.
Investments in only a solar power station will amount to200 million dollars and will allow combining renewable energy sources with the mining industry.
Zijin had previously invested $678 million in the development of the Cukaru Peki deposit, which was launched in2021.
Investments will make Serbia one of the main producers of copper in Europe and the leading producer of gold, as well as create opportunities for further investment, the government stated.
