Goodbye, Gavin: Many residents of California are moving to Arizona and Florida, while fewer are choosing Texas.
California is losing hundreds of thousands of residents to more conservative states, but the number of people moving to Texas has slightly decreased, with more individuals choosing Arizona or Florida as their new home. New data on interstate migration, released on Thursday, showed that while the flow of Californians to the Lone Star State was the largest interstate movement in the past two years, its volume has decreased due to rising real estate prices in Texas.
According to information, more than 107,000 people left Gavin Newsom's (D) state and moved to Greg Abbott's (R) state in 2021, while in 2022, the number of migrants decreased to just over 102,000, reports the Associated Press. However, the number of former Californians moving to Governor Ron DeSantis's (R) state of Florida increased from about 37,000 in 2021 to more than 50,000 in 2022.
The number of residents leaving California for the "swing" state of Arizona has increased from over 69,000 to 74,000 during the same period.
In the past year, the "Golden State" has managed to lose over 113,000 residents, taking into account newborns and people moving to the state. In total, as reported by AP, "more than 343,000 people left California last year, which is the highest rate among all U.S. states."
As Breitbart News reported in April, since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic and until mid-2022, approximately half a million people have left California.
Despite California being the most populous state in the U.S., the cost of housing is one of the main reasons people are leaving.
Data from the American Census Bureau showed that the second largest interstate migration is from New York to Florida, which has generally remained at about the same level with 92,000 movers.
“Overall, in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, more people living in one U.S. state moved to another state than in the previous year,” notes the Associated Press, commenting on this data.
