Opposition to tourism turns its attention to Spain's beaches and restaurants

Over the summer, radical anti-tourist groups attacked beaches, restaurants and real estate agencies throughout Spain and the Balearic Islands. Mallorca and Barcelona, two of Spain's most popular tourist destinations, are frequent targets of protest groups like Aran, who are targeting political and economic independence. In their demonstrations, activists carry placards protesting against "massification" and declaring that "tourism kills".
More than three million tourists arrived on the Balearic Islands in July alone during the peak tourist season.

Protest groups are posting signs in English warning of jellyfish, landslides and sewage to scare tourists away from popular beaches in Mallorca - with an accompanying message in Catalan to make clear there is no danger. Other signs announce beach closures.
