The institute's data shows that out of a total of 3.6 million apartments, 2,625,711 are currently occupied, while there are 510,258 temporarily unoccupied apartments.
Also according to the census, there are 123,584 empty apartments in Serbia, which have not been visited or used for living or recreation for a long time.
Given that there are a total of 3.6 million apartments in the country, we can conclude that almost one in 30 apartments is empty, which is roughly the same as the number of apartments in five-story buildings.
By the same token, in tower houses where each building contains 90 apartments, at least three of them are vacant.
In addition, the census showed that there are a total of 288,883 country cottages and apartments temporarily used during seasonal work, as well as 64,916 apartments used exclusively for commercial activities.
There are 2,797 people registered in inhabited work premises, 4,691 people registered in necessity premises, and a total of 929 collective apartments.
The latest census also shows that in Serbia's capital Belgrade, the total number of apartments is 868,752, of which 696,091 are occupied, 108,714 are temporarily occupied and 10,021 remain empty.
