Republicans are ready to stand up to illegal immigration in Arizona.

In the current legislative session in Arizona, several bills aimed at illegal immigration have been passed, which are being promoted in both the House and the Senate. The legislative proposals, supported by Republicans and referred to as "SB 1070 2.0" by immigrant rights leaders, seek to address the recent increase in encounters with migrants at the southern border.

Here's what you need to know about each of the bills and how they will impact the implementation of immigration legislation in Arizona.

SB 1231: 'The Invasion of Arizona Act'

Three identical bills, Senate Bill 1231 and House Bills 2821 and 2748, classified the crossing of illegal immigrants outside a legal entry point on the southern border of Arizona as a state crime and would allow local judges to handle immigration cases.

The joint legislative motion, introduced as the "Arizona Invasion Act," is supported by Republican Sen. Janae Champ, Sen. David Govan, Rep. Steve Montenegro and Rep. Joseph Chaplick.

Both chambers of the Arizona Legislature are made up of a majority of the Republican Party, ensuring that each of these measures can be quickly passed through committees.

If the bill is signed, the proposal will also provide protection for local law enforcement agencies involved in the detention and arrest of immigrants, including civil immunity and the right to compensation for incidents occurring during its implementation.

The event will also affect recipients of deferred action programs and political asylum, except for DACA, which has not been approved by the U.S. Congress. HB 2748 also includes an amendment aimed at requiring the Attorney General to recover all federal government debts related to expenses incurred by Arizona to mitigate illegal immigration.

SB 1231 was scheduled for a third reading in the Senate on Tuesday, while HB 2821 and HB 2748 moved on to consideration in the House after passing the House Rules Committee on Monday.

HCR 2060: Limiting public social welfare programs

Introduced in the House of Representatives in mid-February by Rep. Ben Roma, House Joint Resolution 2060 would require state, county and city agencies receiving public funds for public welfare programs to use the federal E-Verify program to verify that adult recipients are eligible to reside in the United States.

If approved, HCR 2060 will then seek voter approval during the November general elections.

HCR 2060 will affect everyone applying for a license and applies to employers using contractors or independent contractors. If their legal status cannot be verified through E-Verify, financial assistance from public social welfare programs will be immediately terminated for recipients.

Joint resolutions are considered by the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives simultaneously and do not require the governor's signature to be included in the ballot.

On Monday, HCR 2060 passed the House Appropriations Committee and is moving to the Rules Committee before reaching the floor of the House.
