Rudy Giuliani may remain in his apartment in Florida, despite the judge's concerns about his spending.
Updated [hour]:[minute] [AMPM] [time zone], [full month] [day], [year] NEW YORK (AP) — Rudy Giuliani can remain in his apartment in Florida for now, after a New York bankruptcy court on Thursday declined to rule on a motion from his creditors aimed at selling his estate in Palm Beach.
At the hearing
Judge Sean Lane acknowledged "significant" concerns that Giuliani is spending money on an apartment that should be used to pay off debts to multiple creditors, but stated that he would postpone the decision on the sale of the property valued at around $3.5 million.
The bankruptcy revealed a diverse coalition of creditors.
who claim that Giuliani owes them money, including a supermarket worker who was jailed for trying to pat him on the shoulder, two election companies that he spread conspiracy theories about, a woman he forced to have sex with him, several of his former lawyers, the IRS, and Hunter Biden, who claims that Giuliani illegally disclosed his personal information.
The lawyer representing the interests of many of these creditors,
Rachel Biblo Block stated on Thursday that Giuliani has spent at least $160,000 on utility bills and taxes for his Florida apartment since the bankruptcy, which is much more than the $8,000 monthly payments that his lawyers had previously estimated.
The next hearing
scheduled for May 14th.
