Rudy Giuliani pledged $500,000 for unpaid taxes in Palm Beach.
Rudy Giuliani is facing nearly $550,000 in tax debt on his Palm Beach condo.
According to Palm Beach County court records, the Internal Revenue Service has seized the penthouse due to unpaid taxes for 2021. This is a sign of Giuliani's further deteriorating financial situation.
If he decides to sell the $4.5 million condo, he will have to pay off the debt to the state.
A spokesman for Giuliani said Friday that the mayor has an agreement with the IRS to pay off the debt.
The 2,200-square-foot apartment was purchased by Giuliani and his then-wife Judy Nathan for $1.9 million in 2010. It was subsequently taken over by Giuliani in a divorce.
The luxurious penthouse is located on the fifth floor of a pink 1960s condominium building known as "The Southlake," with panoramic views of the Intracontinental Waterway, Palm Beach Marina and West Palm Beach.
The arrest was originally reported by the Daily Mail newspaper.
In the past, Giuliani, 79, has been lauded as a national hero for leading New York City during the Sept. 11 attacks. But he faces mounting financial and legal problems as a result of his involvement in former President Trump's campaign based on lies about the 2020 election.
Juliani has been named as an unindicted co-conspirator in Special Counsel Jack Smith's federal case accusing Trump of trying to subvert the results of the 2020 election.
He was indicted last month in a sprawling racketeering case in Georgia, where he was accused of helping Trump try to steal the election by telling lies about President Biden's victory in that state.
Two attorneys declined to represent Giuliani in the case.
The judge found Giuliani guilty of defaming Atlanta voters Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss, whom he falsely accused of voter fraud in favor of Biden. The 2024 trial will determine the amount Giuliani will have to pay to women who suffered racist threats and testified before a congressional committee Jan. 6 that their lives were disrupted for months.
Some legal analysts predict the compensation could total millions of dollars.
He's also named as a relevant defendant in a $2.7 billion lawsuit filed by election machine maker Smartmatic against Fox News.
Juliani also faces huge and growing legal bills. Giuliani's longtime attorney Robert Costello is suing him for millions of dollars for unpaid bills.
He is also facing a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former aide who claims Giuliani forced her to perform oral sex on him while talking to Trump on the phone.
Trump has refused to pay Giuliani millions of dollars for legal work. The former president has organized a fundraiser at $100,000 a plate to help Giuliani climb out of his deep financial hole.
Giuliani recently put his luxury Upper East Side condo on the market for $6.5 million, a price that real estate experts consider inflated.
