The most expensive estate in the US: luxury real estate in Florida for a wealthy family

An opportunity to buy an estate in Maples, Florida, has arisen with a price tag that could set a record $295 million. Late financier John Donahue bought the Gulf Coast property in 1985 for $1 million before expanding it. Now his family has decided to sell the three mansions on the 9-acre beach. If the mansion sells even close to that amount, it will become the most expensive residential sale in the United States.

The family of the late investment magnate John Donahue is selling three lakeside homes situated on nearly 9 acres of land, including a 231-foot private marina pool.

The magnificent estate on the Napes Peninsula is the result of Donahue's unassuming beginnings. In 1985, he purchased 4.3 acres of Gulf Coast land for $1 million.

Since then, he and his family have accumulated about 60 acres. In 1955, Donahue co-founded an investment firm now called Federated Hermes, which manages $668.9 billion in assets.

After purchasing the land in Maples, John and his wife Rhodora began spending time here with their 13 children, 84 grandchildren and more than 175 great-grandchildren. The couple has stated that they would like to sell the property as a single homestead rather than divide it. The asking price for the sale of the estate is $295 million, making it the most expensive residential purchase in the United States.
