The most expensive neighborhoods in the U.S. according to Zillow.
If viewing luxury properties is your favorite form of escapism, this list is for you. Published on April 25, 2023. While the housing market is finally starting to rebound, the past few years have been difficult for prospective buyers. Residential real estate volume reached historic lows and home prices reached historic highs, causing many buyers to reconsider or postpone their dream of buying a home. It's ironic that shows like the Sunset Sale and the trend of "Zillow Surfing" (flipping through unattainable offers with no intention of buying) became increasingly popular at the same time. Many millennials, myself included, have found themselves deeply immersed in million-dollar home listings, envisioning an alternative lifestyle in luxury floor plans, even if the reality of being able to afford even average-priced real estate is still far away.
This is why my interest was immediately piqued when I saw a list of the most expensive neighborhoods across the country. To compile the list, CashNetUSA used real estate data from Zillow to identify neighborhoods in cities in all 50 U.S. states, then added up home prices in each neighborhood and divided by the number of properties to calculate the average price in each neighborhood. While the study names the most expensive neighborhoods in each state, it also shares an overall list of the 10 most expensive neighborhoods nationwide, which are concentrated in just four different states.

When people talk about neighborhoods with a high cost of living, big cities like Los Angeles and New York immediately come to mind, but that's not always the same as the areas with the highest home prices, as this data shows. The most expensive neighborhood in New York City, for example, is Southampton Village on Long Island. The average price of the most expensive neighborhoods in every U.S. state is $5,249,542, but the most expensive neighborhood in America - Manalapan, Florida - surpasses that value, with a staggering average home price of $39,761,000.

Florida is home to four of the ten most expensive neighborhoods in America. California and New York also recur on the list, with Hollywood's elite occupying real estate in Beverly Hills Gateway, Bel Air and Trousdale Estates, and some of New York's (and America's) wealthiest families have country homes in Southampton Village and Sagaponack. Snoqualmie, Colorado's third most expensive area is one of America's most popular ski resorts, and according to CashNetUSA, the area has seen a real estate boom in recent years, with sales doubling from 2019 to 2021.
