Many of the Andalusian region's country houses can be said to draw inspiration from the architecture and design of northern Africa, given that much of Andalusia was ruled by the Moors for centuries. But Gacienda Valdelagua, a 2,470-acre ranch two miles removed from the village of Castilblanco de los Arroyos, a 45-minute drive north of Seville, has gone farther than most in its quest to create a Moorish-style atmosphere.
When you step over the threshold of the white knocker walls of the main house, you are immediately immersed in the spicy, woody aroma. The source of this fragrance is the extensive Moroccan paneling on ceilings, walls and doors in the reception area, living room, dining room, study and parts of the master bedrooms.
