A judge has ordered a reality TV star, who is currently in prison, to pay $755,000 in a defamation case.
A federal judge in Georgia ordered reality TV star Todd Chrisley to pay $755,000 after finding him guilty of defaming an investigator from the Georgia Department of Revenue. Court documents indicate that Chrisley must pay $300,000 in compensatory damages, $170,000 in punitive damages, and any additional legal costs incurred by Amy Dougherty-Heinz, according to TMZ.
Chrisley launched an aggressive campaign on social media.
The judge concluded that Chrisley launched an aggressive social media campaign against Doherty-Heinz after she claimed that he "started a social media campaign against GDDR and some of its employees, alleging that the investigation was illegal and improperly motivated," according to TMZ.
Filing a lawsuit and continuing defamation
- Doherty-Heinz took Chrisley to court in July 2021, claiming that he falsely accused her of illegally wiretapping a government program.
- After two months, there were attempts to have the case dismissed, but Chrisley continued to "slander" her in a series of podcasts in September 2021.
