Freedom House: no updates on democracy in Bulgaria.

In a Freedom House assessment last year, Bulgaria was deemed incapable of change. The organization placed Bulgaria in the category of countries with "persistent instability" and classified it as a "semi-consolidated democracy". This is the third year in a row that the country has received the same democracy score of 4.50 on the Freedom House scale.

The term "semi-consolidated democracy" refers to countries with a score between 4 and 5, with a score between 5 and 7 considered a "consolidated democracy."

Bulgaria's results by individual criteria

  • Democratic National Office - 4.25
  • Electoral process - 5.50
  • Civil society - 5.50
  • Independent media - 3.25
  • Democratic governance at the local level - 4.75
  • Judiciary and independence - 4.25
  • Corruption - 3.75
  • Level of democracy - 58%

Hungary, with a figure of 43%, marks a decrease of 2% compared to the previous year.

Russia, on the other hand, fell from 5% to only 2%. Estonia has the highest rate in the former socialist camp with 83%.
