TIS enhances the capabilities for retrofitting trucks in Indonesia.
Thiess has announced its intention to expand its capabilities in the large-scale refurbishment of trucks and their components by securing a long-term lease for a new facility on Batam Island, Indonesia. Thiess has an extensive fleet of mining trucks in Indonesia and Australia, including over 650 units that will reach the end of their service life over the next eight years and will require replacement or refurbishment.
Statements from the management:
The Executive Chairman and CEO of the Thiess Group, Michael Wright, stated: "The new truck refurbishment facility at the Kabil Integrated Industrial Park is a crucial part of our strategic initiative to provide Thiess with better control over the asset replacement and refurbishment program, which will enhance financial and environmental outcomes for our clients and shareholders."
“We are pleased to have secured this location, which is situated between our operations in Indonesia and Australia, with world-class standards in infrastructure, transportation, and logistics.
"This recovery facility will also serve as a platform for exploring Thiess's capabilities in decarbonization and the use of alternative fuel technologies, as well as for providing these services to our clients in the future."
Review from the Kabil Integrated Industrial Park group:
Chairman of the Kabil Integrated Industrial Park, Chris Wiluan, noted: "We are pleased to welcome Thiess as a valuable addition to the Kabil Integrated Industrial Park. The modern infrastructure, strategic location, and focus on sustainability will enable Thiess to gain a competitive advantage in its operations in Indonesia and Australia, while also supporting its environmental initiatives."
Truck recovery plan:
Daryl Albury, the General Manager of Engineering at Thiess in Batam, said: "Our new facility in the Kabil Integrated Industrial Park will allow Thiess to reset the operating hours to zero on 160 trucks per year through complete overhauls, including all major components, full reconstruction of electrical systems, and returning all worn components to original equipment manufacturer standards."
“It is expected that restoring to zero level will extend the lifespan of each Caterpillar mining truck from Thiess by an additional 40,000 to 60,000 operating hours.”
Conclusion:
The Executive Director of the Thiess Group for Assets, Technical Services, and Technology, Ramesh Liyanage, said: "Thiess's reputation for reliability and accuracy in fulfilling commitments is based on our experience in asset management and the maintenance of our truck fleet, with component recovery centers established for decades."
"This new truck restoration facility is the next step in the development of our capabilities and service offerings."
The existing facilities for restoration by Thiess in Perth, Brisbane, and the Hunter Valley in Australia, as well as in Balikpapan, Indonesia, have a successful track record in the restoration and reconstruction of trucks, bulldozers, and components for the company's mining asset fleet, as well as limited restoration exchange services for client assets.
