Trump is spending millions of dollars of donors' money on lawyers as his legal problems mount.
Donald Trump's political finance machine continues to actively solicit donations, but he is spending tens of millions of dollars on lawyers to address the mounting costs of various criminal cases he faces in his 2024 campaign.
Campaign finance experts say using the money to pay lawyers in cases unrelated to the campaign or a public official's debts seems to run afoul of the federal ban on personal use of donations, although the Federal Election Commission has ruled that the ban does not apply to so-called political action committees.
The huge amount of money going to lawyers also underscores the urgency with which Trump is trying to raise money for both the campaign and his legal defense, which is unfolding on multiple fronts.
