A man killed by a tree was a well-known realtor from Atlanta, beloved and prominent, who died during severe storms.
During a severe thunderstorm on Sunday afternoon in the Buckhead Village area of Atlanta, a man was killed when a fallen tree struck him. He has been identified as a well-known and successful realtor in Atlanta, George Hiry Jr. He was 55 years old.
George Khiry Jr. was a respected and well-known real estate agent working at Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty. The medical examiner for Fulton County confirmed that Khiry died in this tragic accident on Sunday. According to his biography on the Sotheby's real estate page, Khiry had over 20 years of experience in real estate development, financial analysis, investment sales, market analysis, and corporate restructuring.
The Hiry family is one of the most well-known in Atlanta's history. George Hiry Sr., his father, who passed away two years ago at the age of 93, helped design historic landmarks - the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium and the Georgia Dome. He also contributed to the design of buildings on the Emory University campus and in downtown Atlanta. His father and the family were also politically progressive; for instance, Hiry Sr. supported Andrew Young in 1970 when he won the congressional election.
In business, he was a partner of his brother Neil, and they were recognized leaders in the development of prestigious residences in Buckhead, Sandy Springs, and other luxury areas. According to his biography, "The Hiri Brothers continue to be among the leading producers." The brothers have been working at Sotheby's for nearly 16 years, since October 2007. As business partners, they received the "No. 1 Team" award in 2010, 2011, and 2013, as well as the "No. 1 Team" award in Buckhead in 2012 and 2013. Their total sales from 2014 to 2018 amounted to over $34 million per year.
In his LinkedIn profile, Khiry described his favorite activities - swimming, cycling, and running. He earned his bachelor's degree from the Catholic University of America in 1991, and then a master's degree in business administration from Georgia State University in 1996, with a focus on real estate.
The police reported that Khiri was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Philip's Cathedral in Atlanta. Instead of flowers, Khiri's brothers' social media post requests donations to Atlanta Lab Rescue - an organization that was close to George's heart.
