Experienced investor Onay Payne has been appointed as the manager of Lafayette Square.
New York, March 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Lafayette Square, a platform for socially impactful investments, announced the appointment of Onay Payne as the Executive Director of Real Estate. In this new role, Payne will oversee the fund's real estate department, which will utilize long-term capital investments and service coordination to support the revitalization of neighborhoods in historically marginalized communities through the development of meaningful municipal projects and the creation and preservation of affordable housing. Payne will also be a member of the investment committee overseeing all of Lafayette Square's real estate activities, including strategic joint ventures and the development of inclusive properties.

Payne is a real estate veteran with over 25 years of experience in the industry. Before joining Lafayette Square, she was a partner, executive director, and portfolio manager at Clarion Partners, a real estate investment firm with assets exceeding $70 billion. During her career at Clarion Partners, which began in 2003, Payne held several investment positions overseeing multiple commingled funds and separate accounts invested in all major property types and markets in the U.S. and Mexico. She was also a member of the Investment Committee and Career Management. Payne started her career in the investment banking division of JPMorgan Chase.

Payne holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University (with honors) and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was a Robert Toigo Foundation ("RTF") fellow.
Currently, she holds the position of Chair of the RTF Alumni Council and Chair of the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors of the Mark Morris Dance Group. She is also a member of the Harvard University Real Estate Council, the Executive Board of Real Estate, WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate, and the Urban Land Institute, where she serves on the National Technology and Real Estate Council, the ULI NY Advisory Board, and the Building Cybersecurity Advisory Council. Payne is recognized as a leader in the real estate industry and was included in the Commercial Observer's "Power Finance 50" list for 2021, featured in the Pace Common Ground Campaign for Gender Equality in 2017, included in the inaugural "40 Under 40" list by the Tuwigo Foundation in 2013, and recognized in Real Estate Forum Magazine as a "Woman of Influence" in 2010.
