in AlgeriaTonight on TV: a new drama about the war in France and Algeria

"Dark Hearts" at 9pm, BBC Four

There is a dark resonance to this French drama

Civilians in a conflict zone face trigger-happy soldiers and find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control. The action takes place in Iraq during the 2016 coalition offensive. Officially there is no French presence in Mosul, but as their special forces capture a French jihadist and try to negotiate the terms of his cooperation, maintaining this fictional story becomes difficult. Scathing and engaging. Phil Harrison

Dancing with the Stars 18:35, BBC One

Despite an impressive shirt tear

Sloppy salsa led to Jodie Kandi and last season's champion Jovita Przysztal crashing out last time out. The remaining 12 couples will be hoping to hang on, especially since elimination this week will deprive them of the devilish outfits that await them in the Halloween Special. Graham Werch

"Fleetwood Mac on BBC" at 20:25, BBC Two

Fleetwood Mac

One of pop music's most enduring bands, or brands - FM is actually at least two different groups that share a rhythm section - has been profiled via a raid on the BBC archive. The original incarnation offers the mellow "Albatross" and the furious "Oh, Okay"; later we see the superstars who made "Rumours." Jack Seal

"Mike Yarwood: Thanks for the Laughs" 8:25pm, Channel 5

In the 1970s, Mike Yarwood was one of the most popular stars of light entertainment

His hilarious imitations (from politicians to soccer managers) now seem to belong to a more naive time.

The movie selection

"Pearls" (Ty West, 2022), 8 p.m., Sky Cinema Premiere

The hot prequel to Ty West's 2022 horror-slasher 'X', with the return of Mia Goth (West's co-writer) as a young Pearl, frighteningly convincing. It's the origin story of a murderous farm girl who lives in the rural monotony of 1918 Texas with her strict German mother and quadriplegic father, but dreams of becoming a movie actress. Filmed in classic Hollywood style - with all the languorous strings and melodramatic acting from the cast - this is a stylish nightmare where Pearls transforms from Judy Garland's Dorothy to Baby Jane as she descends into madness. Simon Wardell

"Poltergeist" (Tobe Hooper, 1982), 23:50, BBC One

"They're here!" From the fertile imagination of Steven Spielberg, though officially directed by Tobe Hooper, came this still-impressive 1982 supernatural thriller that exploits children's fears of monsters in the closet and parents' fears of not being able to protect their children. Jo Beth Williams and Craig T. The Nelson's are moving with their three children to a new apartment complex. But incomprehensible accidents lead to their youngest daughter being taken through a portal to another world, and their comfortable, almost complacent middle-class life crumbles. SW
