In Trump's wake: Kushner's controversial deals in the Balkans.

One of Jared Kushner's planned projects in the Balkans is the redevelopment of a site in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, negotiations for which began a decade ago by his father-in-law.Two years before Donald Trump's 2016 presidential nomination, he expressed interest in building a luxury hotel and apartments on the site of the former Yugoslav Army headquarters, the General Headquarters, which was destroyed in 1999 during NATO air raids. Although that project fell through, Kushner, who held a high position in the White House during the Trump presidency, has now reached a tentative agreement with the Serbian government on the project, according to the New York Times.According to a written agreement obtained for a 99-year lease term without payment, Kushner will be able to build a luxury hotel, residential units, stores and a museum on the site. Funding for the roughly $500 million project is expected to come from Kushner's Miami-based investment firm, Affinity Partners, which he created after leaving the White House.
