Volvo UK has stopped selling all of its sedans and station wagons.

Volvo announced that its sedans and station wagons account for less than 10 percent of sales in the UK, while the XC40, XC60, and XC90 models took the top three positions in their segments. In other words, the market has spoken. "We are continuing to rapidly transform our product lineup, which means not only moving towards full electrification but also changing platforms and technologies across all our vehicles," the company stated in its message. "We will certainly need to develop and consolidate our lineup as we prioritize fully electric vehicles and carry out this technological transition."

"As a result, we have removed several models from our car lineup in the UK. Among them are the S60, V60, and V90. Demand for our existing SUV lineup continues to grow, while interest in our upcoming fully electric models, the EX30 and EX90, is also high. Meanwhile, demand for our sedans and station wagons has dropped to a very low level in the UK, which has led to our decision to discontinue them in the UK market." Some models are still available for purchase from existing Volvo stock, and production of the S and V cars continues for overseas markets. So, if you are absolutely desperate to buy a relaxing, spacious station wagon - and the numbers suggest that you are not interested - we assume you can still import one with left-hand drive.

Will we ever see modest Volvos like station wagons or sedans in the UK again? Perhaps.

When Top Gear suggested the idea of an electric station wagon to CEO Jim Rowan last year, he responded: "Suffice it to say that we are working in all segments and across different markets, and we have customers who need different cars. We will try to meet as many of them as possible. But we won't be slicing things up and having 40 different models. That's not our strategy. Our strategy will be clear; we will take into account the demographics that we believe make sense. And when we get to different formats - sedans, station wagons, etc. - we will address that when the time comes."
