Have you received your tax refund in France yet?

The reduced rate of social security contributions for EU taxpayers.

In accordance with the provisions of the EU Regulation on the Coordination of Social Security Systems, EU taxpayers selling French property with a benefit or declaring real estate income will normally be charged a reduced social charge/deduction rate of 7.5% instead of 17.2%.

Brexit and the new rate of social contributions

From January 1, 2021, post-Brexit, as the UK ceased to be a member of the EU, individuals belonging to the UK social security system were subject to the standard social contribution tax rate of 17.2% of their French income''may overpay social security contributions and be entitled to a tax refund.

To be eligible for this refund, a UK taxpayer needs to belong to the UK social security system.

They have until December 31, 2023 to file, and until December 31, 2024 if they sold their French property in 2022.
