Do you own real estate in Greece? The changes to ENFIA come into force in 2022.

Changes to what owners will have to pay in property tax (ENFIA) in 2022 will be announced in December, the Greek Finance Ministry said on Saturday, noting that the vast majority of taxpayers will see a reduction in costs.

The new ENFIA rates should become law by January 2022, and bills are expected to be sent in March 2022, with the first payment due by March 31. It is not yet clear whether there will be 10 or 12 payments.

In the former case, the last payment is due by December 31, 2022, and in the latter case by February 28, 2023.

The working group on the project, chaired by Deputy Finance Minister Apostolos Vesiropoulos, is expected to submit its final proposals in November.

According to Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, the new property tax will not be included in the state budget. However, the government's plan is to further reduce ENFIA, although already "the current government has reduced it by an average of 22%," he said.

According to the data already published for 2021, the total number of property tax summoned for companies and organizations is 68,542 units, amounting to 494.2 million euros (of which 278.01 million are additional taxes).

As for individuals, 7,180,009 people received bills for 2.09 billion euros (of which 368.4 million are additional taxes for owners of properties worth more than 250,000 euros).
