Donald Trump's lawyers have asked an appeals court to put on hold the $250 million civil fraud lawsuit against the former president that began this week.

But Trump has suddenly asked for a stay of the entire lawsuit pending a ruling on his appeal.

Judge Peter Moulton denied the request but temporarily suspended Trump's revocation of business certifications pending the outcome of the appeal.

Attorneys for Trump say the decision to liquidate his companies will have serious consequences, including the firing of hundreds of employees.

In its response, the state attorney general's office said it is not going to immediately begin liquidating Trump's companies and that the delay is only necessary for the trial.

Trump's efforts to stop the litigation have been rebuffed many times before, and his current arguments are a repeat of previous ones.

The prosecutor's office also noted that interrupting the trial would cause delays in all other criminal cases against Trump across the country.
