Georgia housing is considered the most expensive in the U.S. market, a research report has found
Atlanta housing is the most overvalued in the United States market, according to data from Florida Atlantic University. The Peach State capital beats out several cities in Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Memphis, Tennessee, for the top spot in 2023. Researchers used their own methods combined with open data from Zillow and other vendors.
Data shows that homes in Atlanta are selling for 51% more than their market value, resulting in a significant difference between what people are paying and what the home is actually worth.
While the price may be high, that doesn't stop potential real estate buyers from settling in this city. The National Association of Realtors named the Atlanta metro-area as the best place to buy a home in 2023, thanks to its developed tech hub and strong job market. However, if you're looking for more bang for your buck, the study recommends looking at Macon, Georgia, where homes are $40,000 above the average market price, or College Park, which was named one of 15 cities nationwide where homes are the best bargains, according to GOBankingRates.
