Fat of the Earth: Ozempic, Profits and Taxes.
In recent times, one comment on social media has generated a lot of questions. It reads, "A big congratulations to the overweight Americans who let me pay less on my mortgage." So what did he mean by that?
It is a well-known fact that Americans are not the slimmest people. Statistics show that 42% of the U.S. population is clinically obese and another 30% are overweight. This level of obesity among children is particularly alarming. It is not only superficial, but has been linked to shortened life expectancy. Being overweight is a contributing factor to serious health conditions, including cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Good, but what does national obesity relate to in terms of mortgagesof some foreigner? The key to solving this mystery lies in the author of the commentary. He is a political economist from Copenhagen Business School. The value of the mortgage he is talking about refers to real estate located in Denmark.
Do you understand?
Denmark and monetary union
Dania is one of the EU member states that declined to join the Economic and Monetary Union, so it does not use the euro. It maintains its own currency (the krone).
Periodic interventions are necessary to maintain the exchange rate. ВAs a result, any inflationary pressures that characterize the euro area are eventually transmitted to Denmark. Monetary policy sovereignty does not overshadow economic interdependence.
Corporate taxes in Denmark
Look at another social media statistic published by the same Danish expert. More than half (55%) of the corporate tax levy in Denmark is paid by domestic companies. This is quite a high figure compared to similar European countries.
Compared to these figures, in Ireland only 5% of corporate tax is paid by local affiliates of foreign companies. In this respect, Ireland and Denmark are very different in terms of paying corporatetax.
The majority of corporate taxes in Denmark are paid by just one company, Novo Nordisk. Novo Nordisk is an unusual drug manufacturer. It produces insulin and other medicines to treat diabetes. The company is the largest manufacturer of diabetes drugs in the world. Its drug Ozempic, which prevents the diabetes epidemic and appetite-attracting effects, has become unique and highly sought after amid the increasing number of overweight people in the US.
