Among the thousands of electoral campaigns in the capital, one of the standout features is a poster in Central and South Jakarta, showcasing a Korean candidate for the House of Representatives in the general elections in February. The legislative assembly candidate is 60-year-old Jeong Sung Kim, running under the "Golkar" party ticket. He is vying for one of the seven seats in the House from the Jakarta II electoral district, which covers Central and South Jakarta, as well as voters located abroad.

Questions about his right to run for office immediately arose on social media, and rumors emerged that Kim had only changed his citizenship a year ago.

However, Kim himself, who moved to Indonesia and settled in Jakarta over 30 years ago, denies such claims. "I have been an Indonesian citizen for over 10 years, since 2013," Kim told the Jakarta Post last week.

Kim started his career in Indonesia as a businessman in the textile industry before deciding to try his hand in the legal field. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in law from the University of Indonesia and then founded the law firm Indoyang and Partners, where he works as a lawyer.
