Fethiye in History.

The history of this amazing city dates back to the 6th century B.C. At that time, there was an ancient state of Lycia, and the city was called Telmessos. As a reminder of these times there are still Lycian tombs carved in the rocks. They knew how to build for centuries (!). So Telmessos was considered a sanctuary of Apollo with soothsayers. It was here that King Philip asked to interpret his strange dream. He saw in a dream that his future son would become the ruler of the world. Philip did indeed have a son, who was first named Alexander, and later, for his merits, Macedonian.

Then the Ottoman Turks came here and renamed everything again. The town becameMakri, after the nearby harbor. It didn't get the name Fethiye until 1914.in honor of the pioneer of Turkish aviation.
