I made the decision to move quite unexpectedly. In March 2022, I gathered the necessary documents, such as my passport and driver's license, and headed to Serbia. I have Serbian friends living in this country who provided me with invaluable help at the beginning of my stay. Without their support, it would have been significantly harder for me to adapt to the new conditions.

Problems with opening a bank account

The first task was the question of opening a bank account as an individual at the local Turkish bank Halkbank. At that time, it turned out to be much easier than it is now. I was able to open an account in just a week. I was incredibly lucky, as shortly after that, the bank stopped opening accounts for Russian citizens. Interestingly, Raiffeisenbank also became stricter with their requirements: to open an account, it was now necessary to provide an employment contract with a local company.

Housing search

After resolving issues with the bank, I shifted my focus to finding a place to live. I decided to invest in real estate and didn't take out a mortgage since I had savings. In the end, I found a suitable apartment costing 55 thousand euros.

Undoubtedly, any changes in life, such as moving to another country, can cause stress and instability in feelings. However, in my observations, Belgrade resembles Moscow in the late 90s, which creates a certain comfort in the adaptation process and makes it easier to get used to the new environment.
