Lithuania restricts entry of Russians and Belarusians: what you need to know?

On April 4, the Seimas of Lithuania decided to approve restrictive measures against citizens of Russia and Belarus, but at the same time rejected restrictions related to the acceptance of citizens of Russia and Belarus into Lithuanian citizenship. The decision was made by a majority vote: 76 deputies in favor, 13 against, and 34 abstained.

According to Lithuanian media reports, the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense of Lithuania previously approved the easing of proposed restrictions for Russians and Belarusians, particularly regarding the rules for purchasing real estate.

Recommended real estate
The deputies supported the proposal to allow a broader range of Russian citizens to acquire property in Lithuania, specifically those who have temporary or permanent residence permits in Lithuania, and to inherit property. However, other Russian citizens and their companies will not be able to purchase real estate.

Members of the National Security and Defense Council also supported the proposal to postpone the implementation of restrictions on issuing temporary residence permits to Belarusians until July 1, 2023. The proposal by the head of the National Security and Defense Council, Laurynas Kaščiūnas, to maintain the restriction on granting citizenship to Russians and Belarusians was also supported by the committee members, although more exceptions will be made.
