5 new Netflix premieres to not miss next week

I don't know that Netflix has spent the last few months perhaps doing its best to release its biggest projects in the fourth quarter, saving its best content for something like a huge year-end event. But looking at the list of releases for this week and the rest of the quarter, it's hard to come to any other conclusion. In November, we have everything from the anime Scott Pilgrim Flying Away to director Zack Snyder's space drama Rebel Moon. As for Netflix's biggest and best releases, which are coming out much sooner - in the next week - that's what this post is all about.

Fans of movies, documentary enthusiasts, and fans of Korean dramas, Netflix is preparing releases just for you in the next few days. We'll take a look at it all further in our latest roundup for the week, as part of our ongoing service coverage that will help you decide what to watch next.

If you, like me, prefer to watch movies rather than TV series as it requires much less time, the week ahead promises to be particularly interesting in terms of new Netflix releases. There are some exciting movies ahead, including:

  • First up is an "erotic thriller" starring Bridgerton series star Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich (who recently played the role of a senatorial aide in Oppenheimer). In the financial drama "Fair Game," an unexpected promotion at a hedge fund job tests a young couple's relationship. According to Netflix's official synopsis, "When a coveted promotion comes up at a tough financial firm, once supportive Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) and Luke (Alden Ehrenreich) begin to morph into something more sinister. "
  • The shifting power dynamics in their relationship force the couple to confront the true cost of success and the troubling limits of ambition. In her debut film, writer/director Chloe Domon creates a tense thriller about relationships pitting partners against each other in a world that is changing faster than the rules can follow.
  • The next Reptile movie is for all fans of the True Detective series. In director Grant Singer's new work, which recently screened at the Toronto Film Festival, Benicio del Toro plays a stolid detective who is haunted by nightmares over a gruesome murder. When he tries to solve this murder (of a realtor), nothing in this case is as it seems.
  • The movie also stars Justin Timberlake and Alicia Silverstone, and Benicio del Toro co-wrote the screenplay for the first time in his career. He played the lead role and wrote the screenplay with Singer and Benjamin Brewer. "The collaboration has been very interesting," del Toro told Netflix.

"When we knew where the story should take us, the question became, 'How do we get there?' How do we make it interesting?" We did our research and tried to make it as realistic as possible. We talked about movies and told stories with certain movies as examples. One of them is 'Cold Blooded Murder'.".

I can list on the fingers of my hand the number of Korean movies that have really impressed me, on par with the endless list of Netflix Korean dramas like "The Survival Game" and "Knocked Down." For example, "Killer Bok Sun" is a rare exception to Netflix's list of average Korean films, and the upcoming "Ballerina" thankfully looks just as promising.

This crime epic from director Lee Joon Hyun reunites the cast from "Paper House: Korea" Jung Jung Seo and Kim Ji Hoon and tells the story of a ruthless bodyguard who risks his life for a close friend. The movie premiered at the 28th Busan International Film Festival. The movie promises thrilling action and an emotional journey, putting the protagonist in front of a series of dynamic fight scenes.

Okju is a former bodyguard and the story takes a dark turn when she finds a letter from her friend asking for revenge. This leads Okja to search for Choi, the person responsible for her friend's death.

The film's main poster with its neon color palette hints at the aesthetics and atmosphere the audience is expecting. Okju, dressed in her friend's ballet dress, holds a gun and stares adamantly at the viewer - conveying a steely determination that will guide her on her dark journey of revenge.

What about other releases coming to Netflix in the next few days that we think are worth watching, there's at least one new documentary on Netflix for soccer fans, as well as a new season of the popular French drama about everyone's favorite gentleman thief.

He is one of the most famous soccer stars on the planet, and this four-part documentary series on Netflix allows viewers to learn about the life and success of David Beckham - who started out as a simple working class man in East London and through sheer determination and perseverance was able to balance ambition, success, love and family.

"David's story is a story of huge ups and downs," Netflix explains. "The series tells the compelling and definitive story of one of the most recognizable and criticized athletes of all time. "

The show's crew gained unprecedented access to not only David himself, but also his wife Victoria, as well as his family, friends and teammates to create this intimate portrait of a successful athlete that also serves as an analysis of modern celebrity culture.

And finally, the latest release on Netflix is the third season of French drama "Lupin," in which lead character Assane Diop plays the role of a sort of Robin Hood-style gentleman thief. It's fun, stylish and full of action, and contains plenty of footage to inspire you to travel around Paris.

The last time we saw Assan, he was on the run from the police. Wealthy tycoon Hubert Pellegrini framed Assan for murder, while Assan also uncovered a massive insurance fraud organized by Hubert - the same man, incidentally, who framed Assan's father and sent him to prison years earlier. As a wanted felon, Assan leaves his son and ex-wife and goes into hiding.

Netflix explains that Assane learns to live away from his wife and son. "With the misery they are going through because of him, Assane can't take it anymore and decides to return to Paris to offer them a crazy proposal: leave France and start a new life somewhere else. But the ghosts of the past are always around, and an unexpected return will turn his plans upside down.".
