AI brings legendary French singer Edith Piaf back to life.
in conjunction with one of the studios. Warner Music Group did not specify a release date for the movie.
This isn't the first time an AI has brought a deceased celebrity's voice back to the screen. In 2021, an ethical controversy erupted after it was revealed that a documentary about Anthony Bourdain, "Roadrunner," used an AI model of his voice mixed with voice recordings taken from television and podcasts. Some criticized the choice to include AI-generated fragments of the chef and TV traveler's voice, calling it unethical and even "quite grotesque." The director of "Roadrunner" said he received an assurance from Bourdain's widow that her husband would have been okay with the use of AI in the movie. However, Ottavia Bourdain's response was a statement on Twitter saying that "I definitely did NOT say that''Tony would be fine with that.
It looks like Edith will face no such resistance from people in her inner circle. Katherine Glavas and Christy Lom, the executors of Piaf's will, have already expressed their excitement about how AI is helping to bring the singer to life. "It is a special and moving experience for us to hear Edyta's voice again," they stated. "The technology has allowed us to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of that room with her.".
