Automatic right of residence for Brazilians in Portugal: new law comes into force; understand..
The Government of Portugal has published an ordinance approving the administrative title of residency, in accordance with the mobility agreement between the member states of the Portuguese-speaking countries union. The new text reflects changes in the Portuguese law on foreigners, introduced last year, simplifying the process of obtaining a residence permit for immigrants from Lusophone countries.
In accordance with the agreement of the SOSL, Article 87-A has been added, "regarding the issuance of residence permits to national citizens of the SOSL with a validity period of one year," according to the procedure established in February. The article states that citizens of countries where the SOSL agreement is in effect, who hold a short-term visa, temporary residence permit, or legal entry into the national territory, may apply for a residence permit in Portugal at the Immigration and Border Services (SEF).
The order signed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, José Luís Pereira Carneiro, defines the format of the document and its cost. The electronic certificate will cost 15 euros and will be accompanied by a QR code.
According to the Portuguese news agency Lusa, the new rule will automatically grant a one-year residence permit to immigrants from the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
