The BMW M3 Touring is coming to the U.S., but there's one condition

BMW BMW developed a concept version of the E46 M3 Touring station wagon back in 2000, but it was only last year that the M division finally introduced a production model of the 3 Series station wagon for sale. Unfortunately, the G81 is not yet available in North America, but the M3 station wagon is on its way to the United States. How is that possible? dÄHLer has overcome all the legal challenges to make it possible and unveil this sporty station wagon at the upcoming 2023 KIES Auto Show.

This is expected to be the only M3 Touring to appear in the United States. However, it is obvious that it will not sell. In fact, the tuning experts told us it shouldn't even be driven on public roads. This super-universalist can stay for up to a year, but his stay will be shorter. Buying the G81 was not easy as the car is very popular and the delivery time is too long. dÄHLer was lucky as the dealer already had the car for the showroom and the tuning company purchased it on the spot.

After receiving the car, the tuner sent it home to Switzerland, where a number of improvements were installed on it, which we can see in the attached photos. The car was then shipped back to Germany and is now in a container en route to the United States.

Americans who want to see this forbidden fruit will be able to get a closer look at the M3 Touring on July 9 at Atco Auto Repair in New Jersey during the KIES Auto Show. The day before, members of the media will be invited to view the only G81 on U.S. soil.

You can imagine that getting the necessary paperwork and legally importing the car into the U.S. was not easy, even if it was only for a few months. dÄHLer has not yet decided if they will also be exhibiting their car at the MPACT Motorsports Festival and Car Show in August.

Why it cost them so much effort to bring a car that Americans can't buy, the tuner is looking to increase its popularity in the United States. We're guessing bringing the M3 Touring should help. dÄHLer sells tuning parts nationally through New Jersey-based KIES Motorsports for a host of BMW models. Needless to say, some of the improvements made on the station wagon could be fitted to the M3 sedan and M4 coupe/cabriolet as well.

Rumors suggest that the next generation of the M5 sedan (G90) will have a station wagon version (G99) and could possibly arrive in the United States by around 2026. As for the little brother, the regular 3 Series station wagon wasn't certified for the North American market, so bringing a high-performance version would have required other testing, etc. This process would not only be lengthy but also costly.
