Charles Spencer visits the Althorp House memorial complex in honor of his late sister Princess Diana.
Over the past few weeks, Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, has been posting photos on his social media pages showing his family estate, Althrop House, in different seasons. On Tuesday, he shared an image of a recent visit to a memorial on the estate dedicated to his late sister, Princess Diana.
After her death in 1997, Diana was buried on a small island in Lake Oval, which is just outside the main house, about 250 yards away. An existing Doric temple on the estate has been converted into a memorial dedicated to the princess and features her silhouette in marble, as well as two citations and a metal bench. Thirty-six oak trees were planted along the lake, one for each year of her life. In 2017, Prince William, Princess Kate and Prince Harry joined the Spencer family at Althrop House for a ceremony to rebury the burial ground following an extensive renovation.
In his memoir 'Spare', Harry revealed that he took his wife Meghan Markle for the first time to the island, which is only accessible by boat, during their trip to the UK in 2022. "Uncle Charles came to the water's edge, pushed us back a little.
On Thanksgiving Day, Spencer shared a photo of a recent visit to Malibu with the caption, "Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans - from Manhattan to Malibu (both locations I've visited in the last few weeks)," and a turkey emoji. It is not yet known if he visited Harry and Meghan, who live an hour north in Montecito, a small town in Santa Barbara.
