A man who bought a house in Italy for just 85p is being forced to sell it because of a missed deadline.

Australian resident Danny McCubbin bought a house in Italy for just 85p as part of an attractive offer to attract foreigners to the area, but had to sell it back as he failed to meet a repair deadline.

Danny McCubbin, 58, moved from the UK and bought a house in Mussomeli, Sicily for just 85p. The Case 1 Euro campaign was launched to attract foreigners to the area. Attracted by the beauty of the area, the Australian decided that such an offer could not be refused. However, his dream gradually crumbled as he was unable to fulfill a condition that required buyers to renovate the house within three years of purchase for full ownership. As a result, he sold it back to an agency who sold it again.

However, he later obtained Italian citizenship and now calls this beautiful city his home. He told Yahoo: "The €1 scheme opened up this city to me. "It was part of my dream to move somewhere where the cost of living is not so high." "I could never have done it in London." Danny lived in London for 17 years before moving to Italy. The campaign hoped to attract foreigners to the area.

However, this didn't stop him and he was able to find another cheap house for £6,700 (€8,000) that required less work.

He was also able to find two builders who did a week's work for him and the small fixes cost him £4,200 (€5,000). He is now settled in his new home and has opened a community kitchen to cook and deliver free lunches to families in need. He adds: "I moved here at the end of December 2020 because I wanted to live in Italy after Brexit. "I always wanted to live in Sicily, my parents loved the countryside. So I asked myself what was missing in Mussomeli and came up with the idea for The Good Kitchen."

The labor shortage has prompted Deputy Mussomeli to attempt to ease the pressure on homeowners who urgently need construction workers to renovate their homes. Mayor Toti Nigrelli has promised to ease the labor shortage for others hoping to buy a cheap house at a reduced price. He said: "Local businesses busy renovating until 2024 are having to turn down new contracts, but there will soon be an influx of new builders from overseas to help us."
