The issues of access to the real estate profession were the main topic of a meeting between Maurizio Pezzetta, Vice President of FIMAA (Italian Federation of Mediators and Agents) and Fabrizio Comba MP, member of the Commission for Productive Activities, Trade and Tourism in the Chamber of Deputies.

The fight being waged by FIMAA has a specific objective: to change the current regulations in order to guarantee the training and competence of those involved in the real estate profession through the creation of appropriate alternative training programs.

How should access to the real estate profession be accomplished under FIMAA? At the heart of FIMAA's requirements is the creation of an educational program that allows future Realtors to acquire all' 'the necessary knowledge and skills for their profession. The program should include the following steps:

  • completion of a 12-month training course or professional internship;
  • theoretical training or relevant university education (FIMAA Rome, FIMAA Italy and the Faculty of Law of the Sapienza University of Rome have created a new training program in real estate law and economics);
  • successful completion of an examination before a disinterested party, such as Chambers of Commerce, with an assessment based on the candidate's curriculum, professional experience and practice.

The role of the mentor

Another proposal put forward by FIMAA concerns the role of the mentor, who will be the' 'To accompany interns during their internship.

According to the Federation, a mentor must be a registered professional in RI or REA for at least 5 or 10 years and must accompany only one intern, spending at least 20 hours per week with the intern according to a defined and structured program.

These are important steps, according to FIMAA, to train professionals, such as Realtors, who help consumers "at one of life's key moments: buying a home or real estate, often made with a lifetime's savings. "
