AMSTERDAM, February 29, 2024.

Conceived by Stellantis as an open forum to allow the public to hear a wide range of viewpoints as society faces the challenges of mobility in the future, the second annual Freedom of Mobility Forum live debate promises to bring diverse and possibly counter-verse views. The event, scheduled for April 3, 2024, will be hosted by a neutral third party and will address the question, "How will the planet meet the mobility needs of eight billion people?" The discussion will explore how planetary constraints may change freedom of mobility in terms of technology, business and lifestyle.

The Freedom of Movement Forum is based on four core principles: a 360-degree global approach; evidence-based analysis; openness and transparency to the public; and honest, respectful and collaborative engagement.

The international panel of experts already has different perspectives, as their initial comments attest:

Society:

Majora Carter (USA), urban regeneration strategist, real estatedeveloper, author and award-winning broadcaster. "Freedom of Movement Forum is about quality of life, about being able to live the life you want, but also being able to stay because you want to."

Technology and Artificial Intelligence:

Manal Jalloul (Lebanon), co-founder and CEO of AI Lab, certified instructor and university ambassador at NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute. "The answer lies in harnessing the power of technology and artificial intelligence. AI can create mobility-as-a-service platforms that are efficient, safe, and accessible to everyone."

Environment:

Roberto Scheffer (Brazil), professor of energy economics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a participant in the IPCC. "Rapid action is needed to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050: we must adapt our current infrastructure and technologies before seeking new solutions."

Economics:

Matthias Schmelzer (Germany), economic historian, social theorist, and climate activist. "We need to do better with less and move towards collective forms of mobility. The future is not the car.

Business:

Carlos Tavares (Portugal), CEO of Stellantis; co-chair of the Advisory Council of the Forum for Freedom of Movement. "The planet is heating up, and it is at stake for our children. Now is not the time to maintain the status quo. I don't want my grandchildren to choose between preventing further climate change and preserving freedom of movement! Mobility providers must become game changers."

Cecilia R. Edwards, a partner at the global consulting firm Wavestone, will once again serve as a facilitator, moderating an open discussion between panelists and students from three universities. Attendees of the live event will also have the opportunity to interact directly with the panelists throughout the program during three separate Q&A sessions.
