French rapper MCD sentenced to 12 years in prison for murder in Paris.

French rapper MHD has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing a young man in Paris in 2018. The victim was first hit by a car and then stabbed. A total of five of his accomplices were also sentenced to prison terms ranging from 10 to 18 years. Three other men were acquitted.

MHD, whose real name is Mohamed Silla, became famous after his songs went viral in 2015. He is a pioneer of the Afro-trap genre, combining hip-hop and African traditions. In January 2019, he was charged with murder and taken into custody. However, a year and a half later, he was released while the investigation continued and he released a new album.

In the course of the trial, MHD maintained his innocence.

The murder occurred on the night of July 5-6, 2018, when 23-year-old Louis Kaye was hit by a car and then beaten and stabbed by about a dozen people. Although the rapper denied being at the scene, a local resident filmed the incident from his window and the vehicle was quickly identified as belonging to MHD. Other witnesses also recognized him by his hairstyle and a Puma sweater, for which he was the face of the brand.

The murder took place in the disadvantaged neighborhood of Quite de Chaufournier, where the rapper continued to go despite his fame. He, born in France to Guinean and Senegalese parents, is best known for his song "Afro Trap Part 3 (Champions League)", dedicated to soccer club Paris Saint-Germain. His work has been admired by celebrities such as Drake and Madonna.
