Director General A. A. Karagez speaks at the presentation of the book "100 Years of Special Series".
Serdar Karagöz, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Anadolu Agency (AA), said that they will continue to be the corporate memory of our country, follow all the events in the world and our country and continue to archive them just as they did in the first century of our republicanism, which we evaluate as the "Century of Turkey".
Special series in honor of 100 years of books
Speaking at the launch of the "100th Anniversary Special Series" of books at the Rami Library, Karagöz said that as part of the AA family, they believe that their most valuable task is to leave a mark on the world. He emphasized that Anadolu Agency records and archives facts with complete accuracy and detail with the help of its hundreds of employees around the world. Karagöz said that the Agency is the corporate memory of our country and offers its readers to enjoy the richness of our culture gathered during the centenary of the Republic, founded in 1920. He noted that the Agency is re-housed because of the importance of this goal. The book "The Century Series" presents the first signs of this goal.
The exhibition and yearbooks
Karagöz noted that the exhibition consists of three parts and that the first part contains the first editions of works from the book "100 Years - 100 Literary Works." He said that choosing these pieces was not easy for them and that they presented these pieces to the visitors based on certain criteria. He added that these pieces are not the "best" or "valuable" 100 pieces, but each has its own value and they took great care in the process of selecting them. Karagöz said the exhibit, which can be visited through Nov. 26, will include a visual representation of the "100 Years - 100 Literary Works" book.
Karagöz also talked about the annual yearbooks in English, Arabic and Turkish, and said collectors want to have these yearbooks in their libraries. He noted that AA yearbooks from 2022 through the early 2000s fill libraries with pictures of what happened during the year. This year, however, they did something different, and released the 1923 yearbook. Karagöz said they compiled important events that occurred during 1923 and called it "Yearbook 1923." He added that they will also be launching the book at today's event.
100 Years - 100 Productions
Karagöz recalled that Anadolu Agency was founded on April 6, 1920, on the instructions of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the republic, Halide Edip and Yunus Nadi, two prominent figures of literature and culture.
Karagöz said they created a five-volume series titled "100 Years - 100 Works," which includes literary, artistic and cinematic works of the century. He mentioned authors such as Peyami Safa, Yaşar Kemal, Shule Yüksel Şenler, Tarık Bugra, Jahid Zarifolu and Oğuz Atay and said that these books allow us to know the history of the development of the republic, its wealth and the history of its creation presented in these books and authors. He also indicated that one can access these books and their contents at "100yilin100eseri.com".
Closure
Karagöz emphasized that they have registered the book "1923" as "Yearbook 1923" starting from January 1923, the main year of the establishment of the republic. He said: "We are also presenting you a book called '100 Major Projects of the Republic'. In this book we have presented important projects realized during the period of the Republic. Thus, we have recorded our centennial from 1923 to 2023 with the help of books. "
Karagöz stressed that Anadolu Agency is a landmark organization that preserves and will continue to preserve the country's corporate memory and keep track of all events in the world and in our country. He concluded his speech by thanking curator Samed Karagöz, coordinator Oguz Karakash, AA Books, Corporate Communications and Global Marketing, as well as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Medipol Education and Health Group and Turkish Real Estate.
