Guardian: Before the war began, Abramovich withdrew $4 billion from sanctions.
Russian businessmen Vladimir and Olga Abramovich transferred their assets to offshore companies in Cyprus before the start of the war in Ukraine.
This is mentioned in a journalistic investigation published by the British newspaper The Guardian.
According to journalists, based on searches conducted in February 2022, Abramovich quickly transferred 10 offshore companies belonging to his children into their names.
The nominal value of the companies is four billion dollars, but their real value could be much higher.
Journalists referred to a data leak from a Cypriot company that manages Abramovich's offshore assets.
According to this data, he started the reorganization of the offshore companies on February 4th.
At the end of January, the Euro-Caucasian countries and the United States announced sanctions against Russian oligarchs in the event of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
By February 24, during Russia's aggression in Ukraine, Abramovich transferred two offshore companies to his charitable foundations, while the remaining six companies became the property of his children.
Abramovich's assets in offshore funds include shares in large companies, real estate, and yachts.
The oligarch's children now own between 50% and 100% of the company's assets.
According to the legislation of the United Kingdom and Euro-Caucasus, it is permitted to freeze the assets of individuals included in the sanctions list only if those individuals own more than 50% of a company.
Roman Abramovich is one of the richest people in Russia.
Forbes estimates his net worth at 6.9 billion dollars.
After the start of the war in Ukraine, sanctions against Abramovich were imposed by Eurocaucasus, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Abramovich has seven children, five of whom are adults.
The youngest of them is five years old.
