Prime Minister and Finance Minister Sretta Tavisin expects the country's economy to grow thanks to tourism, which accounts for about 12 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and nearly a fifth of jobs. He temporarily abolished visas for travelers from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, India and Taiwan, and ordered airlines to open new routes and simplify operations at airports to reduce visitors' waiting times. Visa exemptions could further boost demand for Thai apartments, Mr. Wichai added, noting that there are still fewer foreign owners than the legal limit. He also said demand will grow due to a projected increase in tourist numbers next year.

The Tourism Association of Thailand (TAT) expects the number of visitors to recover to 35 million next year.

including 8.2 million Chinese. However, this is still below the record foreign tourist numbers of nearly 40 million in 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic.
