The number of home sales declined in September.

The number of home sales nationwide in September fell 9.5 percent from a year ago to 102,656 units. Loan sales were also down 50.2% year-over-year. Sales to foreigners fell 42% over the same period.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) has published statistics on home sales as of September 2023.

The number of home sales in Turkey decreased by 9.5 percent year-on-year to 102,656 units in September, according to the report. Istanbul had the largest share of sales in the residential sector with 15,247 units sold and a share of 14.9%. Ankara with 9,048 units and a share of 8.8% and Izmir with 5,476 units and a share of 5.3% follow in terms of sales. The lowest housing sales were Ardagan (47 units), Hakkari (55 units) and Bayburt (77 units). Sales declined by 15% in January-September.

Home sales across Turkey fell 50.2 percent year-on-year in September to 8,446 units. Loan sales as a share of total home sales amounted to 8.2%. For January-September, the number of credit sales decreased 29.6% to 160,884 units.

There were 1,971 loaned homes sold in September and 48,865 loaned apartments sold during the January-September period.

Home sales outside of credit transactions were down 2.3 percent in September from a year ago to 94,210 units. Such sales accounted for 91.8% of all home sales. During January-September, the number of home sales outside credit transactions decreased by 10.8% to 739,190 units.

The number of primary housing sales in Turkey fell 15.2% year-on-year to 30,488 units in September. The share of primary housing in the total number of sales amounted to 29.7%. For January-September, the number of primary home sales fell 13.9% to 268,597 units.

Home sales to foreigners in September fell 42% from a year ago to 2,930 units. The share of housing sales to foreigners from the total number of sales amounted to 2.9%. The most housing was sold to Russians - 722 units. They are followed by Iranians (327 units), Iraqis (191 units) and Germans (148 units).
